There's nothing like a good couple of snow days to wipe the extraneous and non-essential off our To-Do list and bring us back to basics. Without the ability to leave the house unless on foot and not many stores open, we are forced to focus on just the necessary needs we might have.
The basics. It helps us focus on meaning and purpose. Do I have enough food in the house to keep me fed until I can get to the store? If we lose power, will I have enough firewood to warm the house? I don't really need that new shirt because I have everything I need in my closet and I can't get to the mall anyway. Are the pets safe and warm? Am I safe and warm?
Each hour that you spend in the house you make meaningful because you invest it with your energy, your intentions, your capital, your decisiveness. There are no distractions. You make meaning to the time you spend with yourself and your family and friends because you are forced to live with just the basics for a few days.
How we live our life with intention should be the path we choose ALL the time and not just when we have a few snow days. Think about school in this way. Don't clutter your life with the non-essential. The drama. The unimportant.
Another aspect to this snow day break includes the ability to be a kid for a minute. I got a chance to sled down the hill in front of my house with a piece of cardboard wrapped inside a trash bag. I'm sure you made a snowman, snow angel, did some sledding, had a snowball fight with your family or friends or at least enjoyed traipsing through the snow up to your ankles.
It is my hope that while we will do lots of hard work in Eagle TV this semester, eliminating the unimportant, that we will have lots of fun while we're at it. We will experience some things that we've never done before and will pave the way for our viewers, down a path that they've never been down before. We will be pioneers and, through Eagle TV, will lead our viewers into adventure. Maybe we'll do a story on zip lines in north Georgia, maybe we'll show SCHS about the gorilla rescue sanctuary, maybe we'll feature a man who teaches young people how to climb trees in order to overcome fear and adversity, maybe we'll show our school a story about someone who has overcome unbelievable odds to follow their dreams, maybe we'll be able to show that Everybody Has A Story.
Eliminate the extraneous and start thinking about how you can use your personal power to showcase greatness. You have the power. Start thinking like a journalist. Show us some amazing stories!
Tell me about how you're excited about your role in Eagle TV. What kind of stories are you interested in featuring? How has this snow storm allowed you to focus on what's important? How can you combine fun and business with Eagle TV?
****Please use full sentences, proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and put some thought into your answer. I want at least 4-5 sentences that make sense. This is a writing assignment, remember!**** Also, make sure you sign your post so you can get credit.
I'm excited about my role in Eagle TV bacause I like to be in the know and I'm hoping to allow others to have the same privilege as well with our news stories. I would like to feature some stories about gay teenagers and their struggles with bullying, acceptance and relationships. I think that is a subject that people need more information on. Hopefully by doing a package on that, close-minded people will change their opinions and be more accepting. I struggle with these things as well. This snow storm has made me think about the important things. As Mrs. Watson said in the post: Am I warm? Are my pets warm? Will I be able to eat? Those questions are things that need to be solved. They are like a job. Jobs are important. The snow may be pretty to look at and fun to play in, but at the end of the day, everyone has a job to do to keep their family warm and fed. Combining fun and business while doing Eagle TV will be quite easy for me. I am thinking about possibly doing this kind of work as a career and I find editing and filming fun (as long as my group is participation, that is). The business aspect of class is learning how to edit, film and interview, whereas the fun part is doing all of ti on your own once you learn how.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited with my role in Eagle TV because I love to help out others and see what I have done for them. Some of the stories I would love to do would be on suicide and depression in teenagers and how it affects their school work. I know it's very hard staying on top of classwork and keeping good grades and on top of that the teacher yells at us when our grade slips. I think it would be good if people understood some things that were going on in the students lives.
ReplyDeleteThe snow has given me time to think about life, about how I look at things. I should live life to the fullest because who knows, the next three or four days might be spent inside due to some freak snow storm.
When it comes to combining Eagle TV and fun, I think it's going to be very easy because film is something I love to do so I find "fun" in it everywhere I turn. Plus, I have friends that crack me up all the time. Alas, it does not need to be fun all the time because it is hard work to produce Eagle TV, but it would not be enjoyable without laughter here and there.

I'm excited about my role in Eagle TV bacause I enjoy telling people what's going on. I would like to feature stories about teenage depression, like Stephanie. I think that stories on this will help people understand the severity of this issue. I hope that by doing a story on that, we can help those teenagers who are struggling with depression to feel a little less alone in their struggle.
ReplyDeleteThis snow has made me realize how lucky I am to be safe at home with my family. My family got in a scary situation because of this snow. The day that the snow started, my sister was at the airport, because she was going to see a few people before they had to leave to go home. Unfortunately, flights were cancelled and roads were close by the time she was leaving. Me and my mother were worried sick. My mom was on the phone every two second with a different person, trying to find a way to get my sister home. Thankfully, one of the people at the airport was able to drive to our house. Sadly, he didn't just bring my sister and himself. He also brought two extra people, who were also friends of my sister's that got stuck at the airport. In the end, everybody got home, safe and sound. I taught me to be thankful that my sister was safe and that even though we may fight a lot, I would never want anything bad to happen to her.
I believe that combining fun and Eagle TV will be simple. I enjoy filming, so it's fun right from the start. Also, I think that Eagle TV will be a lot like working in my group. We may play around a lot, but we always make sure to get our work done first. I think that's how Eagle TV will be. Work first, fun late. That's what will make it so enjoyable, we'll always find time to have fun.

I'm excited with my role in Eagle TV because it gives me a chance to experience new things and to give people the news first.I think we should features stories about the latest tragedies in the world and problems that students face everyday like peer pressure, depression,or even what to eat for lunch.
ReplyDeleteThe snow has given a chance to get out the house and do some family bonding time.It also made me think about how little time I spend with them and that life is to short to be worried about unnecessary things.
-Laurian Lackey
I'm excited for my role in Eagle TV because I want to experience more things. Last year, I watched and got to know how the program works. This year, I'm eager to get more involved in the show's process. I'm interested in doing stories that most teens can relate to. High School is a hard time for a lot of people, so having stories on different things that teenagers experience daily seems really important. Like a few people above, I agree depression is a story that I'd be willing to try and pursue.
ReplyDeleteThe snow gave me important time for family. My sister came into town, and we just sat around watching television and playing games with my mom. She doesn't get a chance to come around often. It's rare for the snow to stick around like that, so I felt it kind of symbolized the relationship between my sister and I. It made me realize how important my family is since I'm usually distracted with other things.
It should be easy to mix fun with Eagle TV. I find the whole production process fun, already. There will probably be a lot of problems and arguments, but I think at the end of the day, we'll be able to put aside all our differences to do a successful show - and have fun.
I am actually very excited about Eagle TV this semester. Not only am I in the class with my friends but I feel like I have a very strong group this semester. I feel like we will be able to get things done faster and have interesting stories. Stories that I am interested in this year are; of course all the new construction going around the school, stories on teachers; I feel like teachers may have cool stories about their life etc. and I also think we should have more stories outside of school about other teens and their stories. This snow storm as allowed me to focus on more important things because I have had so much time sitting in the house I have had a lot of time to think about school, college and other things in life. I believe we can combine Eagle TV and business together and make it fun by having fun and interesting stories and also meeting new people is always fun!

ReplyDeleteIm very excited about eagle tv this sememster. I have many people in my class who I like and I think are cool,so it makes class flow so much better. Also I'm around people who know excalty what they're doing. The snow helped me realize that life always throws you tough times but you cant let it hold you back and keep you inside.. Sometimes you have to go outside your way and do something new. It helped me focus on school, also getting through what we call a "long year". I look forward help editing and gathering idea's for stories and of course having fun.!
I am very excited about Eagle TV this year. I'm really looking forward to starting my career in Audio/ video production and this is the perfect class to learn the basic fundamentals and get a head start on it. I'm looking forward to doing stories that really connect with the audience and leave a lasting impression. I am also really looking forward to working on the senior DVD and being a part of such a monumental task. I can't wait to see what this final semester of my high school career has in store for me.

To be honest, I wasn't excited at all, at first. I felt as if the class was too hard and everyone was catching on except me, but i'm not going to look at it that way anymore. I rather make it another goal I can put on my list to accomplish, and I would like to learn to edit on my own.
ReplyDeleteWe can air stories on guest who comes to our school, awards, game highlights, etc. We can combine fun with buissness on Eagle TV by doing skits, or saying funny phrases...?
The snow trapping me in made me feel as if days were being wasted. Now i do not want to waste time, instead I want to stay productive. Napiera Barclift
I feel very confident about my role in Eagle TV this year. I'm excited about this semester and I come in with an open mind. The snow storm has helped me focus and gave me more time to think about Eagle TV's future. I am ready for a great semester and looking forward to it.

Really, though at first I got in this class just to have it, but now I see that I really could use this oppurtunity to express myself not verbally, I can use my Ideas to enlighten others I could use this time to shine, because in the snow I actually had time, to really get to know my younger siblings and to play with them to really understand life. I mean when I was little I often wander why my bigger brothers were too busy, for me but the snow has made me realized how they felt exactly how I felt, so now I try my hardest to push myself in everything I do, I want to challenge myself I want to see if I can maintain, a busy life and have time for fun without the usual, lazyness factor interfering... -Jeremy Weaver
ReplyDeleteI'm excited with my role in Eagle TV because I've always been excited :)! A new year equals new things. I will work hard, and produce great content. I will continue to carry my role as one of your best students and lead anyone who needs assistance. I will also follow whomever I need to follow that succeeds in an area where I don't.
ReplyDeleteThe snow has made me a little more grateful for school, because I was extremely bored. I graduate in a few months; I need to start preparing myself for the final days of my life as high school student. I was thinking of ways we could make Eagle TV better, which I will share in a further post. I love this class and I cannot wait to see what we all can come up with this Winter/Spring semester :)
Iam really excited to be this semmester in Eagle TV. It seems like a very intresting class with students that are wiiling to learn and with alot of opportunities to learn new stuff. Which might be the lesson i learned in the snowstorm. That every day you learn new things, like for example materials doesnt always bring happiness, spending some time with family does. As for wat storys i would like to write about iam not quite sure yet. But maybe it could be one of those where it inspires people to keep going in live, to succeed, or to give hope. /Juan Millan/
ReplyDeletei am very excited about eagle tv this semester ! first i never really did it before and it feels great to be apart of something . i can tell this semester is gonna go smoothly and be so much fun . the group that im in now is very funny and easy to get along with . i can admit that i was kinda scared the first day because it was alot of stuff that we had to accomplish and do that we didnt do in the beginers class . some stories i would like to see is on the construction on the school , what alot of seniors are planning to do with their lives after they graduate, and more stories about teens .
ReplyDeletethe snow storm affected me in a horrible way . instead of thinking about the positive thoughts and clensing , i was very depressed that i couldnt get out and hang . it sounds kinda shallow but i dont get out as much as people think i do .
fun and business with eagle tv just go together ! you can still have fun by making this experience amazing by laughing and communicating with others and sharing your love for the class with eachother . business is trying to communicate with other grownups and important people in the industry and trying to make your way up top !

I am rather excited. I hope to really show what I can bring to the table as far as this class is concerned. I have lots of good ideas for packages and VO/SOTs
