So, last week with a class of video production students minus the juniors and minus the seniors who felt as if they wouldn't miss any valid instructional time, the Eagle TV students did amazing work. We produced a full show which aired on Friday and began a new one, we learned 4 new tricks on Final Cut Pro and on Live Type, we worked on several senior video segments and we produced two complete 3-minute mini movies based on one sentence and did it in two days!
I'm impressed by what we can accomplish.
So, that's why from here on out (we have 9 weeks left) we are going to be busy doing our projects and doing them with style. Here's what we have on our plates:
Senior video segments. All of which are due on May 16th....
Blogs. We have 6 more. That's it.
2nd VO/SOT due March 31st (Thursday)
3rd VO/SOT due April 22nd
3rd and 4th Outside Projects due April 13th
3rd Pkg due on April 15th (9 school days from now)
Story Ideas due April 19th
Story Ideas due on May 4th
5th and 6th Outside Projects due on May 18th
and Project Presentations due on May 20th.
We still have to author and put together the senior DVD and we have to produce 7 Eagle TV shows (one per week) until the year can be completed in here.
Whew...now that I see it on paper, it's a lot. What is it you say? We don't have as much time as it seems?
Well, no. We miss the week of April 4-8 for spring break, Friday April 1st is the International Festival, so we lose that day. May 5th is End of Pathway Testing for those of you who have completed level 3 or higher in BVP or any career tech or business class, throw in End of Course testing in there, senior meetings and other events and it really boils down to about 7 weeks left....that's 35 days to get all of the above finished. That's it. Seventeen things in 7 weeks. That averages out to about turning something in about every 2-3 days. Well, your blogs and story ideas should be done at home and your outside projects will be done after school, but you get the idea about what kinds of deadlines we're under.
Oh, and that new control room....we have to find time to train on it using the new equipment. That will certainly take at least a week when it's installed and ready to use.
Keep in mind that grading on packages and VO/SOTS gets harder. I expect you to have a well-written script with outside sources, adequate statistics, well-shot video, good lighting and flawless audio. You don't have time to re-do it. Seriously. You must use a tripod, super your talent correctly and artistically, tell me something I didn't already know in your stories and appeal to a mass audience of primarily cynical teenagers whose attention is hard to get even when their shoes are being stepped on.
Yup. We have lots to do. Use your time wisely and don't waste it. Let me know in your comments how you plan to manage your time. How will you deal with hurdles that keep you from going in the edit room or editing because your video is too dark? How will you make sure those things don't happen? How will you make sure that every moment you spend in BVP is used wisely and not wasted?
The clock starts now.....
The groups must pre plan every move we make for each different project. We must stop last minute packages and voice overs. Even though we some how find a way to finish our stories and projects we never work and produce to the best of our ability. We are also down one edit room so we must come harder with out attentiveness/focus and skills so our packages can be the best for the last 9 weeks!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to step up my game. Start taking things seriously. Maybe do all of my Story Ideas at home within a week so that there is less on my plate. Go ahead and come up with other ideas for packages so my group wont fall behind. Always stay positive and be reasuring. Negativity isn't needed when you are on deadline because it just stresses you out more. I think everyone will need to step up their game. It's going to be hard, but it's something I'm willing to do.

Well, I plan on "distancing" myself (humor me here) from the group. I'm a BIG talker (as if you hadn't already noticed)and the people in my group are my friends so I tend to talk...A LOT. So, in order to stop that, I have to busy myself doing something for the package that requires one or two people so as not to get too distracted. I feel like we got a huge chunk of the planning part of our package done today so tomorrow we can begin to get B-Roll; the sooner we get the B-Roll and our press releases and all that other good stuff out of the way (preferably sooner than later), we'll be able to finish (hopefully!) early. So, another thing I plan on doing is to begin to delegate certain jobs within our group. This way, people won't be standing around saying, "What do I need to do?" or "Do you need me?" Comments?
ReplyDeleteMrs. Watson, this semester has been very time consuming for me I have had little time on my hands and at first It anger me, but really it's helping me personally it's keeping my mind occupied from distracts and bad influences. All this work has really been pushing my mind to it's limits and beyond that and I feel, that If I still have time In my day where I just sit around doing nothing, then I'm not doing enough, So let me get up from this computer cause i'm really not doing anything just blogging so, you won't start yelling...

ReplyDeleteI plan on Manging my time by staying organized. If I can't go to the edit room or if something keeps me from being able to do what is asked, then I stay after or talk to Mrs. Watson and see what can i do to make it up. That way i will not get behind and I can stay on track with everything. Time management can easily be attain just by simply knowing what I want to do before I get in the editroom and doing it. Time is ticking but I looking forward ending on a good note.
Well as i read the blog we have accomplish a lot in such a little time. Now since we have seven weeks left we really need to get busy and get work done. So my plan is to get with my group and get the classwork done. Second is to have a plan for the senior video so i can get started on my part or shall i say what i hvae signed up for i will get it done. But yet i have to wait till the senior events so i can get good shots and more fotage but till then im working on bringing my grade up.

I definitely plan on using my time more wisely in here. I relize now that there is no time to just sit around and do nothing. I have to be working for the duration of the class period. I also realize that I need to produce a higher quality of work. I took this class because I wanted a challenge and that's exactly what I'm getting. I have started to plan out how I'm going to use my time in the class. Like right now I'm typing this blog in class because my edit machine is being occupied. There's always work to be done so I should never be sitting around twirling my thumbs.

I think the best way to manage our time is to follow the calendar that you gave us so we won't be off track. A way we can make sure we have good audio and our videos aren't dark are to check our audio before hand and to white balance to make sure our image is nice and clear. Since these are our last few weeks in broadcasting I think these should be our best few packages especially for the seniors!!!!
ReplyDeleteI plan to manage my time in this class by making a list of things to do. I will make sure I look at this list everyday, so i dont forget anything or miss out on something important. I will make sure every minute is not wasted by me doing what im supposed to do & staying on topic & making sure i write everything down. Story ides will be done at home & outside projects will be done after school. I will attempt to finish all projects like 3 days before its due, so I can make any corrections or do anything else that is needed.

Time is something you cannot get back so i do agree with you when you say we need to start spending it wisely. Maybe by blogging at home and not in school we could take this time to work on the senior dvd or something more important. Also to make sure there is no issue that will occur with my footage I will make sure me and my group be very aware of what we are recording so there will not be any problems once we begin to edit.
ReplyDeleteI wiil manage my time more wisely. It is getting very close to the end of the year and grades are very crucial to me. My piers and I have potential to have a very good BVP crew. We need to have good quality productions.

i will manage my time by writing down everything that i have to accomplish and make sure all of my blogs and outside projects get done with. i will make sure i dont waste time by playing around and talking when i know i have things to do in this class.

There's ALOT going on now. Everyone needs to stay on task and get things done. We're in highschool and want to be at as mature young adults, and don't want teachers/staff looking down on us as "kids". We need to stop playing, texting, eating, etc. When you tell us to clean up, fill out the work log, finish a project by dead time, etc, we need to do so. I'm slowly learning ow to edit, but need practice. I need to know how because when our editing member isn't here, work doesn't get completed. I think I need to step up and take charge. I'll do my part along with everyone else so Eagle TV becomes a great production, and so the class runs more smoothly.

For the rest of the semester I will make sure that I stay on task and do all the right things possible to prosper for these last nine weeks. This means that I will be more of a participant and active in all that I'm involved in. I understand that this semester is winding down and i must step up to ensure that great things happen for the entire BVP program.
