The thing that I've wanted you to realize this year, with some of our struggles, is that in order for things to change, you must change yourself, not others. You have to change the way you look at things, the way you interact with others, the way you think about things; you can't wait for others to change....it has to begin with you.
As most of you embark on the next chapter in your life, I want you to remember something: when things don't seem to be going well, look inside yourself first. Don't blame all the others around you for your discontent. As you look inside, you might discover that you didn't understand your perception at all and that the problem was with you all along. Most of the time, we are not always the best judges of ourselves.
I want you to read the article attached. http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/spirit/archives/be-change It's a short article. I want you to carry these ideas with you as you head into your next adventure. I hope that you always enjoy learning new things in your life, but that you stay grounded and remain the person that you are; aiming to improve yourself each and every day.
You can do this...I've just seen us make a big change in class and I think it took us looking within ourselves to be able to make it. The senior video deadline looming was probably a motivating factor too! :-) We're still not out of the woods. We have another 5 weeks, but we can forge ahead with this newfound energy.
Let me know what you think about the article and tell me what thoughts go through your head as you read it and reflect on how it applies to you. How can you be the catalyst for change in your life and in the lives of others around you?
When reading this article, I must admit that my cyclical nature was dominant. Although I find it a wonderful fact that there are positive philosophers in the world that can out-weigh and even the pessimistic ones. Lastly, I find myself in a pensive mood over my future endeavours, but at the same time appreciative of the fact that the future can be pulled or pushed in either direction.

“Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.”
ReplyDeleteWhile reading the article, it was that quote in particular that stuck out to me. I can see how true that is. What I do is significant to only me, yet it can still help impact other lives than my own. Gandhi's goals to be honest and modest at all times is inspiring. Although, I think that is actually impossible for all human beings to live like that. Compassion for other people also leads to lies to protect their feelings. If we always tell the truth, wouldn't we lose some sense of compassion for others?
“Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
That was my favorite quote. It really hits close to home. Considering that you learn not to trust people, it shows that while one person can't be trust - that doesn't mean everyone can't be. It's as though it's saying don't judge everyone for one person's mistakes.
The step by step guide to "becoming the change in the world" is helpful, but I think it's going to take more than just imagination to complete.
I think the article hits home as far change. And in saying that, I'd have to add that I do my best everyday to remain a positive impact in my life and others'.
ReplyDeleteyou really are right about this blog as far as what change people make. its had to make changes for better because many people are afriad of what people think and are afriad to do things that bring change good or bad
ReplyDeletei definetly just have to stay motivated and encourage myself and others. i have to look for the postive ways to move forward and just light the fire and go for it. i can't let myself or my friends be lazy, we have to be focused and get the job done! there is absolutely no time to waste or to be slacking off!

I personally judge myself knowing that what I think of myself is not what others may see. I always tend to just go with the flow and try not change anything even if I feel like it is wrong. Lately I have been working on that. I have been looking at others around me and trying to change so that maybe they will follow and change some of their ways. I agree with the definition we use for the word "change". I believe the best time to change is now. Right now! Not for the worse, but for better.
ReplyDeleteJust keep swimming , i keep going just like nemo . never do i try to be lazy but my focus is never on the right thing . i sometimes rely on others to get me started than motivate myself. having a posistive attitude is always the key to success . and also knowing how to talk to people coulld help you in the long run and yes i have been practicing . but we all need to have a little strength
ReplyDeleteI think the article was really good. I think the first step to taking change is actually doing something about it. If people really wanted to take change they would do it without even thinking twice. I can only be the change in my life, but others can follow. But I think I can lead others by doing the right thing, not getting distracted and working hard.
ReplyDeletei think change is more action than words. people can talk a good game but when it comes down to the actual change, nothing ever gets down. i can help others change, by taking the iniative and doing it myself. then others will follow.
ReplyDeleteWe always want to change ourselves. We actually have to do it to see it. 2010 is the year I want to change for the better
ReplyDeleteIn order to instruct change in the world and in others we must first change ourselves. Our actions for here on out are a statement and a mark into the generations to come after us. So it is up to us to make our future bright as well as that of others.
