I'm sure most of you have seen this link by now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZYMost of you probably don't think much of it, but it holds a lot of meaning for us here in Eagle TV. Let me explain.
First of all, and most obviously, you should never judge a book by its cover! Susan Boyle had everyone in the audience, the judges panel and everyone sitting at home poised to hear another disastrous rendition of "insert popular song here". We were all incredibly surprised. Why were we surprised? What made us think she couldn't sing? Her appearance, right? As if appearance has anything to do with the ability to sing. We all pre-judged her. Shame on us.
In all the "life lessons" we've gone over in class, I'm sure this was one of them, but I do distinctly remember a certain lecture about interviewing. In it, I said, "don't let your opinion of your interviewees looks, mannerisms, speaking, thoughts, feelings, or demeanor cloud your objectivity about them." This is good advice for a reporter and good advice for us all.
The Susan Boyle singing example holds another lesson for us here at Eagle TV: that of letting your talents shine. Let us all see how creative, talented and special you are. Don't hide it.
Susan Boyle was asked by Simon why she hadn't pursued a career in singing and she said that no one had given her a chance. The truth is....she never seeked out opportunity. You can't just wait around for someone to discover how good you are at something. You have to take chances and put yourself "out there". Let us see how good you are at.....editing....shooting.....producing ....writing....story-telling BY SHOWING US. Don't wait for us to discover you because it may never happen. Don't hide it. Get up on "on stage" and show off a little!
What are you good at in video production that you haven't really shown anyone? What do you think you'd be good at, given the chance to try? Why haven't you pursued this? How can you improve? What do you want to be really good at in video production? What do you want to be really good at in life? What are you doing to make sure people see and hear you? Are you taking steps to put yourself in a position of showing off your excellence? What are you afraid of?
All it takes is a brief walk up on stage.
Well i never really showed it cause i never had a project to show it on but im rather creative when it comes to making concepts for music videos and i can put it together it would be fye but i just havent had the chance. Ima just ask miss watson to let me make a video one day yall will see lol
ReplyDeleteI think if given a chance id be good at editing. I have pursued this because ive been in groups where everyone knows what theyre doing & they just go ahead and did it. But ive improved because now I edit alot more =) And I want to be good at EVERYTHING in videoproduction. Im not really afraid of anything...
ReplyDeleteI believe that I am a good editor and a decent photographer. I usually wook alone in projects (as i said in my blog entry last week). AS I am not the deity of project management, filming or editing, i am not perfect so I will make mistakes (such as filming something for 5 secs, not always maintaing a steady shot, or making things longer than they should be.) But this is due to the lack of experience i have had in video production. I'm good in setting up a shot and white balance because of my actual experience as a photographer (as in the Picture-taking one). I started of in Yearbook this year with barely any experience in using a camera. I bought my own camera in late August-September and learned as much as I could from books, manuals, and demonstraions, and now I can say I can shoot at a professional level.
ReplyDeleteBack to topic. I work really hard in Broadcasting to stay on time and to make sure my material looks well edited. I am hoping that everyone will manage to see that by the time broadcasting is over.
And I hope that everyone (or at least almost) gets there senior segment done so that WE don't have to do the documentary in place of it!
when it comes to video production, im really good at script writing. i want to be better at editing though, because i feel like you can have a great piece of video but if you dont know how to piece it together you can ruin it.
ReplyDeleteI am really good at writing in video production. I am good at writing scripts and anchor intros. I know how to make the story "pop" by including catchy phrases or "play on" words. I think I would be good at editing music videos if someone gave me the chance to. I have pursued this in video production. I would really love to get more exposure of doing music videos because I anticipate on being a music video director in the near future. In video production I hope to be better at editing than what I am now. I am not saying that I am a bad editor, but I am eager to learn more editing tricks. I would like to be a humble, successful person that is good at doing all aspects of film and video. To make sure people see and hear me, I send out resumes, go on job interviews, and intern at various places related to my field. The only thing I am afraid of is missing an opportunity of a lifetime. I want to always be prepared for whatever opportunity that comes at me and with all of my accomplishments so far, the education I've had, and the interns I have done, I am well on my way to a promising future.
